Today is a very sad day for me. After everything we did, energy, money, exposure, the gate at the dump was open again last night and 8 horses inside. We went down in the dark and in the rain to chase them out and close the gates. The signs had been removed too. Is it so difficult to just close gates?
BUT this is not my greatest sadness.
My greatest sadness is that Lax is dead.
She had to be put down because there was more plastic in her small intestine, in her stomach and we don’t even know where else. Her body just couldn’t function anymore. We knew that the operation came with risks and it could have worked but Lax was just too full of plastic and her intestines could not do the work to get it out.
This is the 6th horse that has died as a result of the dump in Greyton that is left open day and night!
Further action will be taken. This horses life was in our hands. All the others that have died this year too. If we live clean lives, nature would flourish around us. But no. All we care about is our luxury and spoilt lifestyles. And so we pretend that we are superior, and clever, and better and stronger.
What a disgrace. I am speechless and feel defeated. What kind of people can’t even close a gate behind them? Is that too much to ask?
Where are we going? Who are we? When are we going to realise our responsibility toward this mother earth, and all that is on it?
All I can cope with today is to pray for forgiveness. How dare we be so irresponsible and disgusting.
Goodbye dear Lax. Rest In Peace.
